HIPAA Recreational Injury Technical Correction Act

House Bill:  H.R. 2793

Senate Bill:  S. 577

A provision in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) has resulted in discrimination against motorcyclists.  Insurers may deny accident benefits to employees who ride motorcycles. 

Representative Michael Burgess (R-TX) and Ted Strickland (D-OH) have introduced the House legislation, HR 2793. Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) and Russ Feingold (D-WI) have introduced the Senate counterpart legislation, S.577 in order to close this loophole.

There are 93 cosponsors to the House bill.  On the Senate side, there are 9 cosponsors.

There are no Delaware cosponsors to these bills.
